Hey! You're Here!

We've been waiting for this day to arrive

From the whole team THANK YOU for choosing to embark on this adventure with us.

How we stay in touch

We'll need to keep you in the loop with announcements and updates, and you'll need to be able to interact with your fellow students.

Most of our communication happens via Discord as an informal way to hang out with your class and lecturers. Formal Communications from the school happen via your school assigned Outlook address. Online classes are scheduled via Microsoft Teams.

Setup Discord

Most students will already have a Discord account, so it's just a matter of joining the server below.

If this is your first time using Discord, follow the steps to the right to get setup. Discord has multiple 'servers' that you can join and is likely to be a service you continue to access beyond your time with us. Therefore we recommend using your personal contact details to sign up, so that you can hold onto it forever.

Stick around and we'll promote you to a DCF Avenger after you graduate.
It doesn't actually confer any material benefits, but you can access a private lounge with other graduates and a special server role.

Please remember to be mindful of others and do not post offensive content, bully other students or repeatedly spam @s.
We will ban offenders and that brings shame upon your house.

Install the Discord App (optional)

Go to the Discord download page and select the version for your device or app (school computers already have it installed). You can also access Discord directly in your browser if preferred.

Create an account

If you don't already have a Discord account, you can create one when first signing in. We recommend using your personal account to avoid having to switch back and forth.

Join the 'Digital Creativity' server

Use the button to the left to join the server and explore. There is an All Students area where everybody across the program can chat + play games and a private class area for just your cohort.

Set your server nickname

Please use your real name on the server so that we can quickly find you, users without their name set will be purged. Change your nickname by right clicking yourself in the user list and then select 'edit server profile'.

We'll add you to your class roles

As you get settled into your classes, we'll manually add you to your class channels. Lecturers will post announcements / reminders here, so it's useful to check back often.

Microsoft SSO

Access to your school accounts requires Microsoft Single Sign On.
This is how you log into most services provided by the school, including emails, classes and more.

Access details will be provided to you by the school but usually follow the format: firstname.lastname@mds.ac.nz (although this may vary).

This account is used across a wide array of services and benefits that are afforded to you by Media Design School at Strayer.

Student Emails

Formal communications will be sent via your school provided Outlook inbox. Check it regularly to make sure you aren't missing any vital information.

Calendar

Online classes will be scheduled via this account and will appear on your calendar. You can also add your own useful information to your calendar as a reminder, such as when assessments are due, or events.

School Equipment

Logging into lab computers or booking equipment, resources, printing services and rooms requires your school account. Your physical ID / key card is also tied to this account.

Software Licenses

Any school provided access, such as Adobe Suite licenses requires first being logged into your Microsoft SSO. Some software (such as DCF HUB) requires your school account, but may not be tied to the SSO.

MyLearn

Your course content and materials will be made available within MyLearn.
It's also where you will submit assessments for review.

Please ensure you have access to your MyLearn classes ASAP
